How a report is built

Four passes, in this order, every time. Nothing is guessed and nothing is paraphrased.
Fix the identity
We agree exactly which person, parcel or entity the search concerns, including known alternate spellings, before any index is opened.
Open the indexes
Recorder, assessor, court and state indexes are searched in turn. The query used for each is written down as it was run.
Read the entries
Every hit is read at the entry level: dates, parties, instrument numbers, and the office that holds the original document.
Write it plainly
The report states what each record says, in order, with its source. Where an index is silent, the report says so too.

Where the reading happens
Between a reading room and a filing cabinet. Most of what we deliver starts as paper or a microform scan and ends as a page you can understand.
